What's Going On This Weekend?

  • Don’t forget that Go Ape reopens this weekend!
  • Seasons of Williamsburg is hosting their annual Spring Open House on Friday, March 9 beginning at 9:30 a.m. and on Saturday, March 10 beginning at 10 a.m. There will be new pottery available for purchase from the Royal Botanical Gardens in London, England.
  • Historic Jamestowne has a new walking tour, “First Africans Walking Tour.” You can attend on Friday, March 9 from 2-3 p.m. This walking tour of “New Town” focuses on the arrival of the first Africans in Virginia in 1619. Of the nine Africans listed at Jamestown by 1625, only one was identified by name – a woman named Angela. Recent archaeology has investigated the site of where Angela lived and worked. Its launch celebrates Black History Month. Free with paid admission to Historic Jamestowne. Tours begin at the Tercentennial Monument.
  • Paint Monet-inspired waterlilies on Friday, March 9 from 6-8 p.m. during a class at Artfully Yours Studio. Cost is $30 and acrylic paints and a 16x20 canvas will be provided.
  • The 17th Annual Jamestown High School Swamp Run 5K Run/Walk will be held on the Greensprings Interpretive Trail on Saturday, March 10 from 9-10:15 a.m. The trail will remain open to the public during the event. The Greensprings Interpretive Trail is located at 3751 John Tyler Highway, behind Jamestown High School.
  • The Williamsburg Winery Cycling Club returns on Sunday, March 11. Enjoy a Sunday morning group ride through the Historic Triangle and back to the Winery for wine and brunch specials at the Gabriel Archer Tavern. Ride registration begins each Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and the ride begins at 9 a.m. There is no fee to participate. All Cycling Club participants will receive a 15% discount at the Gabriel Archer Tavern following the completion of the ride. The discount is only valid the day of the ride. The Williamsburg Winery Cycling Club offers three different group cycling options:
    • Option 1: 40 miles with an average pace of 18-19 mph (Jolly Pond Loop)
    • Option 2: 40 miles with an average pace of 16-17 mph (Freedom Park Loop)
    • Option 3: 25 miles with an average page of 14-15 mph
  • Enjoy Selection Sunday with Brackets and Beer at Billsburg Brewery on Sunday, March 11 from 12-9 p.m. Billsburg Brewery will have all the final games on the televisions plus all the coverage for Selection Sunday and the analysis after the selections.

Community Events

  • Enjoy Astronomy for Everyone: Size & Scale of the Universe at the James City County Library on Friday, March 9 at 5:30 p.m. Astronomer Kevin Manning presents an exciting 90-minute family program for ages 8 to 100 about the universe from the very small to the very large. Following this indoor presentation, participants will go outdoors to view celestial objects in the night sky through a powerful hand-crafted telescope. You may see the ice crystal rings of Saturn, craters on the Moon and more!
  • Get a free Diabetes Risk Assessment Screening and Blood Pressure Check on Saturday, March 10 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the James City County Recreation Center Lobby.  Are you at risk for Type 2 Diabetes? Stop by to take the American Diabetes Association Diabetes Risk paper test and discuss your results with an RN. This assessment is based on individual risk factors. There is no blood test. Health and wellness information available. No registration required.
