What Events Are This Weekend?

March 23

  • Attend the final Williamsburg Classics program, Mozart’s Haffner Symphony, by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra at Crosswalk Community Church on Friday, March 23 at 8 p.m. The performance opens with György Ligeti’s Concert Romanesc, a modestly modern piece composed in four movements played without pause. Using elements from the Romanian folk tradition, Ligeti echoes childhood memories of Alpine horns heard in the Carpathian mountains. William Walton’s viola concerto, featuring Juilliard graduate and Chesapeake, VA native Andrew Gonzalez, is an emotionally gripping piece and is arguably the first great viola concerto of the 20th century. The performance concludes with Mozart’s Symphony No. 35. Also called the Haffner Symphony, the work has a spirited first movement that is, Mozart said, to be played with fire, followed by an unhurried, graceful second movement, a bright, atmospheric third, and ending in a fervid finale that Mozart advised be played “as fast as possible.” Tickets are available online.
  • There will be an Easter Egg Hunt at Brookdale Williamsburg on Saturday, March 24 from 8-11 a.m. There will be face painting, games, prizes, refreshments, the Easter Bunny, a magic show and over 1,500 eggs! For more information, or to RSVP, please contact bperkins@brookdale.com or call 757-220-1839.
  • The Jamestown 4-H Discovery Run 10K is on Saturday, March 24 at 9 a.m. A beautiful, historic, scenic, varied and almost totally flat course combining three of the Williamsburg area's finest trails-the Virginia Capital Trail, the Powhatan Creek Trail and the Greensprings Trail. The 10K will start and finish at the Jamestown 4-H Center, at the end of the 4-H Club entrance road. The course is entirely paved (with a few scenic wooden bridges) except for a one-mile stretch on the well-maintained crushed-stone Greensprings Trail and the hard-packed dirt 4-H Club Road start and finish. Cost is $30 for the 10K and $10 for the fun run.
  • March 24 is Opening Day at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The park is open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Jump in the car and head over to the World's Most Beautiful Theme Park, you won't want to miss out on the thrills. Learn about the new Busch Gardens Membership Program online before you go and don’t forget that free preschool passes are available through May 31.
  • Join the Williamsburg Winery for Yoga and Rosé, a fun and interactive yoga and wine pairing experience, on Saturday, March 24 at 10 a.m. Mary Robinson of Body Balance Studio will guide you on a journey of mind, body, and wine inspired by the newly released 2017 Wessex Hundred Dry Rosé! The Yoga & Rosé experience will be inspired by the refreshing elegance found in the Dry Rosé. The class will center around the heart, due to the gorgeous rose color of the wine. This class will be accessible for all levels. Cost is $15 per person and includes a one hour guided yoga experience and a glass of the 2017 Wessex Hundred Dry Rosé. Space is very limited, tickets may be purchased online. 21 years and older.
  • Attend the Fossil Frenzy at York River State Park on Saturday, March 24 from 10 a.m. until noon. Long before there was a York River State Park, or even a York River, 6,000 plus years ago, marine creatures swam here in a shallow sea. Early whales, porpoises, sharks, clams, scallops, and snails all left traces of their existence which we now find as fossils. Join us in discovering relics of these very old creatures as we hike to a fossil beach. No cost, but please call 757-566-3036 to make a reservation.
  • Hike and keep an eye out for the magnificent birds of prey that dwell along the rivers and marshes during the River Raptors Hike at York River State Park on Saturday, March 24 from 10 a.m. until noon. Learn about the flight and hunting abilities of bald eagles, red tailed hawks, osprey and vultures. The hike will cover about 1-3/4 miles along the Visitor Center and Taskinas Creek Trail. Photographers are welcome to capture images of the birds that appear.
